What it is

Orthodontics addresses the position of the teeth and the relationship between the jaws. Beyond appearance, a correct bite makes teeth easier to keep clean, distributes chewing forces more evenly and reduces unnecessary wear.

Who it is for

Children, adolescents and adults. In some paediatric cases early intervention can guide jaw growth and reduce the need for more extensive treatment later — the right timing depends on the individual case and is assessed at a clinical examination.

Treatment process

1. First consultation: clinical assessment, photographs and radiographs as required.
2. Treatment plan: diagnosis, appliance options and expected duration, discussed with you.
3. Appliance fitting.
4. Periodic adjustment appointments, typically every 4–8 weeks.
5. Appliance removal and the retention phase with a retainer.

Duration

Duration depends on the case. Full fixed-appliance treatment usually runs from one to three years; limited cases can finish sooner. A specific timeframe is given only after diagnosis.

Aftercare

After the appliance comes off, the retainer is part of the treatment, not an extra. Teeth tend to drift back toward their previous position, and wearing the retainer as instructed is what preserves the result long term.

Frequently asked questions

At what age should a child have a first orthodontic check?

A first assessment around the age of seven allows the jaw growth and the emerging permanent teeth to be evaluated. That does not mean treatment starts then — in many cases the right decision is to wait and monitor.

I am an adult — is it too late?

It is not. Orthodontic treatment works in adulthood provided the teeth and surrounding tissues are healthy. The main difference is that jaw growth is complete, so certain corrections call for a different approach.

How often do I need to come in?

Usually every four to eight weeks. If you live abroad, we plan the appointment schedule around the periods when you are in Kosovo — call before you travel.
